If you are self-employed then you can claim a home office expense.
If you are an employee receiving a W-2 for your annual wages then you cannot claim a home office as an employee business expense due to the tax code changes for tax year 2018 thru 2025.
Not sure why you are asking about a W-9. The Form W-9 is a form you submit to an individual or company that is going to pay you for something. It gives them your Tax Identification Number so that they can report the amount they pay you to the IRS. Your income is not reported to the IRS on a W-9. You do not enter a W-9 on your own tax return.https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-w-9
What form is your income reported on? Do you receive a W-2 from an employer who withholds Social Security, Medicare and federal tax? Or do you receive a 1099Misc or just cash or checks for work performed as an independent contractor?
If you are a W-2 employee you cannot take a deduction for a home office. The tax law changed that for 2018 and beyond.
If you are self-employed, you can still use the expense of a home office on your schedule C.
