I got a no and then a yes from someone else. Dealership also says yes. Sure is confusing.

You see the 'yes' reply has been deleted. It was a generic answer and not specific to Georgia. I live in Georgia and agree with the Turbotax CPA @TurboTaxDavidD  who provided the linked answer.
BTW, a salesman will tell you all kinds of fiction to get a sale.

My apologies for the confusion. I did not notice the reference to GA.

So I went back and deleted the ad valorum as a deduction. I guess I am misunderstanding what it says on that page: "In Georgia, you can deduct the Ad Valorem Tax portion of the annual auto registration."

@wendyblake That statement should be revised because it's only true if you own a vehicle purchased prior to 3/1/13. It looks like you are using the online Turbotax Deluxe program. Is that correct? Where is this statement shown? Federal deductions or GA deductions? I should report it as misleading.

"Motor vehicles purchased on or after March 1, 2013 and titled in this state are exempt from sales and use tax and annual ad valorem tax, also known as the "birthday tax". These taxes are replaced by a one-time tax that is imposed on the fair market value of the vehicle called the title ad valorem tax fee ("TAVT"). The fair market value is the taxable base of the motor vehicle. The manner in which fair market value is determined depends on whether the motor vehicle is new or used."

The key thing here regarding itemizing the GA car tax is the "annual" ad valorem tax has been replaced by the "title" ad valorem tax which is a one time tax. In order to itemize the car tax, it must be an annual tax.

@wendyblake Maybe you could post a screen shot of the place it says....

"In Georgia, you can deduct the Ad Valorem Tax portion of the annual auto registration."
