You can also amend your 2018 MI tax return if you would like. Either way works.

Does it consider as amended return? Or just like new filing of Form MI-1040CR by itself? I’m confused whether to check the box ‘amended return’ or not. Thank you
No, it is not an amended return if you can file the form alone without including the MI state return.
according to what you said, i can still claim credits by filling Form MI-1040CR without amending my 2018 state return, right? i read on MI website, and "If you are required to file a Michigan Individual Income Tax return MI-1040, submit the Michigan Homestead Property Tax Credit Claim MI-1040CR with your MI-1040. If you are not required to file an MI-1040, you may file the MI-1040CR by itself. You have 4 years from the original due date to file your claim." i had 2018 MI individual income tax and already filed for MI state refund last year, but forgot to claim homestead property tax credits. after reading this, do you still think i don't need to amend my 2018 state return?
