Is your Form 2106 for unreimbursed expenses for your W-2 income?
While it is true that you can deduct your Form 2106 expenses on the tax return for the year you paid the costs, it may not make a difference on your return.
Would it make much impact? That depends. Unreimbursed Employee Business Expenses fall in the category of Miscellaneous Itemized Deductions.
So first of all, you would have to itemize deductions as opposed to taking the standard deduction.
Secondly, Miscellaneous Itemized Deductions are reduced by 2% of your Adjusted Gross Income. (Line 37 of your Form 1040)
So, if your Miscellaneous Itemized deductions are less than 2% of your Adjusted Gross Income, they would not impact your tax return.
