In Feb, 2024 I made an HSA contribution for tax year 2023 for the months when I had HDHP insurance prior to starting Medicare. These were included in my 2023 taxes filed April, 2024. I had Medicare all of 2024. When I tell TurboTax 2024 that I made HSA contributions in 2024, it treats it as taxable and does not give me an opportunity to denote it as 2023 contributions. I know that it is legit to make these '23 contributions prior to tax filing in 2024, but I can't say "yes" to TurboTax without it treating it as a 2024 HSA contribution--which is of course not allowed now that I'm on Medicare.
Am I supposed to say "no" because, though made in 2024, they were for 2023 and are already reported on my 2023 form 8889?

You do not tell Turbotax in the 2024 return that you made contributions for 2024. They were not they were for 2023. No or none is the correct answer.
Thanks. That was my interpretation, but their wording is not helpful. I guess they mean to say "Did you make in 2024 tax year contributions in 2024" but leave it to the user to interpret.
