2023 Delux, Form 8915F for COVID

I'm using TurboTax for the 2022 tax year. I need to pay the third year of taxes on a qualified COVID disaster withdrawal. When I go through the Disaster Year questions, 2020 isn't offered as an option - it jumps from 2021 right to 2019. When I access Form 8915 in the Forms setting, all of the boxes show up blue and I can't enter any values. How can I enter the final year of income from my 2020 COVID distribution?

Apparently that section of TurboTax is under construction. Please see this article: IRS forms availability table for TurboTax individual (personal) tax products. Open the table and search for 1040-Individual, Federal, 8915-F. You'll see the form isn't scheduled to be available until 2/16/2023.

If you wish, you may work on other areas of your return while you wait for that section to be updated and the form available for filing.

👍 Thank you!

It looks like it was pushed back (like last year) - is this something that is going to continued to get pushed back like last year?  I really need to get my taxes done and and am hoping that this isn't something that gets pushed back to 2 weeks prior to deadline.

Thank you for pointing that out. I was just about to go in and take care of this last piece of my return. Heavens, I can't imagine why it was pushed back even once.... they already did the coding last year. It should be a copy-paste. However, it looks like there are only a few forms still in process, so it shouldn't take long? Fingers crossed.

Is form 8915-F not ready for Desktop version yet?  It does not ask the questions for 2020 corona related disaster? Form won't populate correctly.

Yes, it is.   To generate Form 8915:

  1. Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”
  2. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  3. If you do not have any 2022 1099-R answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2022?" (If you have any other 1099-R then enter all 1099-R and after entering your last 1099-R click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info” screen).

The next screen will ask Did you take any disaster distributions in prior years or repay any prior year disaster distribution in 2022?   Answer YES and TurboTax will add the form to your return.   @23395gall

2023 Delux, Form 8915F for COVID

I did file this morning and my return was REJECTED due to an error on 8915-F.  Item C is auto-populated with "Virus SARS-COVID-2" (or something similar) while Item D clearly says to check the Item D box and DO NOT POPULATE Item C.   This form is not editable and is not yet populating properly.

The form is not populating correctly. When Item D is checked, Item C should NOT POPULATE (but it is, and I can't clear the entry.)  Tax submittals are being rejected.

Please try these steps to fix the rejection issue:

One option is to delete "Form 8915-F" and "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" and then go back to the retirement section and reenter the information. This was successful for many TurboTax Users.

  1. Open or continue your return in TurboTax.
  2. In the left menu, select "Tax Tools" and then "Tools".
  3. In the pop-up window Tool Center, select "Delete a form".
  4. Select "Delete" next to "Form 8915-F" and "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" and follow the instructions.
  5. Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”
  6. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  7. If you do not have any 2022 1099-R answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2022?" (If you have any other 1099-R then enter all 1099-R and after entering your last 1099-R click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info” screen)
  8. Answer "Yes" to the "Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2022?" screen
  9. Answer "Yes" to "Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?"
  10. Check the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and enter your information.

Please try these steps to fix the rejection issue:

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”
  3. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  4. If you do not have any 2022 1099-R answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2022?" (If you have any other 1099-R then enter all 1099-R and after entering your last 1099-R click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info” screen)
  5. Answer "Yes" to the "Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2022?" screen
  6. Answer "Yes" to "Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?"
  7. Uncheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and click continue
  8. On the "Which disaster affected you in 2020?" screen I selected the blank entry and click "back"
  9. Then recheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and continue.

Thank you, @PattiF. This fix DID work for federal return. However, the STATE return is still being rejected. I did receive an email that further fixes are forthcoming within a week or so.
