1099-G and standard deduction

Just checking on my sanity.  Perhaps I miss read the question while entering my input.

I took the standard deduction on my 2020 taxes.  I received a sizeable state tax refund for 2020.  I entered it into my 2021 step-by-step and if I remember correctly, TurboTax responded since I used the standard deduction, I did not have to report my state tax refund.

Is that correct or am I mistaken?

I tried to re-enter the data in the step-by-step but the question about  itemizing did not reappear.

Thanks

MG

You are correct.  If you did not itemize your deductions in 2020 then the state tax refund is not entered as income on your 2021 tax return.
