if it says (amending refund 2020) under your federal taxes, is that how much you are getting back? say it says 8,305$
i am so lost with this entire process. filed HOH/3 dependents and had unemployment all year due to closure of my work place. i racked up about 23,000 in UE. how would i know if i am getting a refund back? which in turn goes back to my first question ! THANK YOU to someone who can explain this to me 🙂

If you already filed you do NOT need to amend the return ... the IRS will do it for you automatically.
yes but i mean if it says (amending) under your federal 2021 taxes, is that how much i am getting back?
If you are using the amendment program then IGNORE the Refund-O-Meter ... then LOOK at the 1040X ...
Column A should have the figures from the original return, Column C the corrected figures and Column B the differences between the other 2 which needs an explanation on page 2 of the form 1040X.
If you completed it correctly you will see an entry on either line 16 OR 18:
On line 16 should be the amount you paid with your original return.
On line 18 should be the amount of your original refund you received.
Then you will see your extra refund on line 22 OR the new balance due you need to pay on line 20.
