I am 62 years old and married. We live in NJ but my wife works in NYC and I have been retired for several years.
I get a small pension of $11K. We file a joint NYS nonresident form IT-203 yearly. For the last 3 years there is an exclusion of $11K. This year I withdrew $40K from my IRA. Why is only $20K being excluded on Line 28? This money is not NY Income. How do I get Turbo Tax to not include my IRA distribution in the taxes. If my wife was not working in NYC we would not have to file NYS Nonresident or if we were not married, my IRA contribution would not be involved any NYS income. Please help and/or explain as this is not NYS Income. Thanks
