Why is TurboTax generating Form 8582 when I have no passive activity loss in the state of Maryland?
The link you posted does not work. Please update.
The update is almost complete. Please check back to see if you can complete this in a few days.
You are holding my filing up and actually costing me money. That money could be in my savings account drawing interest.
Any idea on when this is going to be resolved? Trying to file for 2 weeks now and can't get past this screen. Talked to specialists and their suggestion was just to submit without review and hope for the best. I have PAL and need this form to file.
I am chatting with Turbo Tax and they have no idea on this issue? It seems like this is a problem with Turbo Tax and not the IRS. It's tax season...why would a form not be ready?
i have spoken to one of the Turbo Tax experts and they have no clue on when this issue will be resolved. You posted to check back in a few days. It's been weeks now. When is Turbo Tax going to fix this issue?
I think it is a TurboTax issue. The 2021 form appears to be ready:
Form 8582 is used to figure the amount of any passive activity loss, where you are not actively engaged in a business or investment, such as losses from rentals.
If this is in your Maryland tax return, our team is still working to resolve an error message in some Maryland state returns that give an error message about Form 8582 and the Activity Sheet needing an update, even if there are no passive losses to report.
If the federal forms are all finalized and the federal is ready to e-file, you can choose to file just the federal return at this time, then come back when your state forms are ready and e-file that return. The filing date for tax year 2021 Maryland state returns was extended to July 15th, 2022.
Note, if you don't e-file them together, you do have to wait until the federal is accepted before you can e-file the state. Sometimes this takes a day or even two.
Here is a TurboTax Help article with directions for when you return to file your state return.
File State after the Federal is Filed
TeresaM,
You admit that it is Turbo Tax's fault for this error. Please provide me an estimated time the error will be fixed. This is completely unacceptable business. I paid money to have my taxes efiled. Either fix the problem or refund me my money. Waiting until July 15th is not an acceptable solution either. I am ready to file....NOW. Please fix the form ASAP.
Please let me know what else I can do.
thanks,
Jason
When is this issue going to be resolved??? Please either fix the problem or refund me my money.
I don't think its unreasonable to ask if its going to be another week, or if we are looking at several more months for this issue to be resolved.
Thank you for sharing this information. Our team is working to resolve the error message for Form 8582 Passive Activity Loss Limitations during Review of state returns and now expects to have this updated by March 3rd. Please try your return in Review on or after March 4th.

File State after the Federal is Filed
TeresaM,
I've done all that you advised to do and I still am having problems with the efile for state? I see your note about March 3rd. I will try it again then.
If it does not work who can I contact at TurboTax for a refund?
