When I put in my excise tax in federal it did not change anything in state. Indiana uses excise tax

As an Indiana resident, on your federal return, you can deduct the excise tax paid on your license plates when you register a vehicle. You can itemize the deduction on Schedule A.

However, the State of Indiana does not allow the deduction on the state return.  Therefore, while you enter information in the software, the amount will be added back to your income and TurboTax program will most likely account for that to calculate your state taxes correctly.
