I know I am not unique here. I live on the Kansas side of the Kansas City area with the LARGE majority of my income being Kansas wages and paying Kansas taxes. I do a small amount of work as an independent contractor on the Missouri side of Kansas City for which I am paid through an LLC that I established. I am paid as a contractor so no taxes are taken out of that income. I am using Turbo Tax for business and personal. When I do my Missouri state taxes, Turbo tax uses my Kansas income from my W-2 to calculate my Missouri taxes and doesn't use my Missouri income at all. I can't get it to separate Kansas income from Missouri income for tax purposes... HELP!!

Double-check what you entered for the resident state; make sure you entered Kansas. And check that you entered the state taxes from your W-2 correctly. You should only have MO referenced in the Other State Income section. If those are entered correctly, TurboTax should be prompting you to file a nonresident return for MO. When you start the state return for MO, is it showing as a nonresident return?
I have Kansas entered as my state of residence. The only W2 I have is from my Kansas employer. I do not receive a W2 for my work in Missouri. I get a 1099-MISC as a contractor. But Turbo Tax pulls my Kansas W2 as my income even for my Missouri state taxes. That W-2 has nothing to do with any Missouri income, and my Missouri income is all "business" income as part of my LLC. The two should not be mixing, but Turbo Tax is conflating them.
I think I've got it figured out... Thank you
