The value on line 21a. 2020 estimated tax for the North Carolina state form is twice the value it should be according to my 2019 return. How can this happen?

I applied on my refund for North Carolina for 2019  as estimated taxes.  The number that is showing up o my 2020 form for estimated taxes is twice the number on the 2019 return.

The value on line 21a. 2020 estimated tax for the North Carolina state form is twice the value it should be according to my 2019 return. How can this happen?

Your 2019 refund, which you applied to 2020, did not transfer correctly. You are able to edit this amount in TurboTax so that it is correct and in accordance with your 2019 return. 

 

Please follow the steps below to correct input: 

  1. Open your tax return.
  2. Search for estimated tax payments with the magnifying glass tool on the top of the page. 
  3. Click on the Jump to estimated tax payments link at the top of the search results.
  4. Scroll down to the section titled 2019 Refund Applied to 2020.
  5. Select Start next to the state section
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions.
