The prompts keep me going in circles saying I haven't added a state, but I live overseas. Not even sure where it wants me to add it in my info, but can't print. Help!!?

I also don't have a SSN for my husband or daughter but I understood that I could print without them, but I can't get out of the cycle to print.

I'm a fellow user, not a tax person, and can't help you in regards to the  situation with your husband and daughter.  But I'll tell you below how you can indicate your "state" of residence if you live overseas.

By the way, in order to use TurboTax to prepare the correct type of return, are you yourself a US citizen or resident alien for tax purposes?

When you went through the My Info section, there is a question that asks  "Tell us the state(s) you lived in ", i.e., state of residence on December 31, 2020.

There is a dropdown menu with a list of states.  Way at the bottom after Wyoming is the choice "Foreign or US Possession."

If you need assistance with how to file if your husband and daughter don't have an SSN, I can't help you with that, but someone else may add to this thread during the day.   If they don't, I may be able to find someone who can assist you in this thread.

Thanks, that's what is selected and there are no notifications that would indicate there is missing state information anywhere.

The only question is whether I made any money in a state, which I didn't, but otherwise I'm not sure what to do. Hopefully I can call tomorrow and someone can help.

Here's something else that can prompt for a state:

Did you happen to purchase the optional MAX benefits, and it's asking for "state and zip code?"

The screen says:

Next, let's get you set up for Plus Benefits
Oops, it looks like we're missing some of your personal information like state and zip
You can go back to My Info and add that information now.

But when I got to my info, it doesn't have a place to enter any state or zip.

I think we're getting close to your problem.  It is related to your choice of optional benefits--either PLUS or MAX.  Both of those have paperwork that will look for a US address, and there's a way for foreign filers to use a workaround, or to delete the benefits package if they don't want it and haven't paid the TurboTax fees already.

But something is confusing.  You appear to be using Online Deluxe (at least that is what is displayed underneath your original question), so it shouldn't say "Plus" benefits.   PLUS is only available in the Free Edition, so that's confusing.  In the paid editions like Deluxe, the optional benefits package is called MAX.    Are you indeed using Deluxe as indicated, and if so, are you sure it didn't say MAX benefits?

Or are you indeed using Free Edition with PLUS, and the Deluxe product indicated underneath your question above is wrong?

What all are you being charged for?   Is it charging you 29.99 for PLUS, or $50 for MAX?

In Free Edition the total product fee would only be 29.99; i.e., the PLUS fee.  But in Online Deluxe the fees are $60 for a Federal return and a possible $50 for a state return (for those filers applicable), then an optional $50 for MAX.

Have you already paid your TurboTax fees with a US credit card with a US billing address?  If not, don't pay yet.

Hi, I had already paid $60 for deluxe.

It's all really frustrating and so far doesn't even seem to have filled out the only form I actually needed help with.

I don't live in the US so I don't have state taxes to file.

I'm a fellow user and don't work for TurboTax.  So I'm not understanding what is happening.  Something doesn't seem right, however, if you are in Deluxe, and if your error message is mentioning PLUS Benefits.  As far as I know, PLUS is only available in the Free Edition and costs 29.99, unless they've changed something, such as adding it to Deluxe.

*****EDIT NOTE:  3/25/2010 10:30 PM Pacific

They may have indeed added PLUS benefits as part of Deluxe.  I can't find much mention of it, and I don't see it at all on the product page.   I saw one little blurb in a product FAQ.*****

When one buys PLUS or MAX, there is a consent form that triggers that request for state and zip code.  I think this may be because of the Identity protection services in those products.   So in that case foreign filers get an error that says they must provide a "state and zip code" in regard to that consent form.   There is a workaround for those foreign filers that some have suggested, but those people have actually purchased and paid for MAX at $50 (or Free Edition with PLUS at 29.99) in addition to their TurboTax product.  So if it only charged you $60 for Deluxe, then it doesn't sound like you signed up for MAX, so I'm not sure why you got that message, and why it says "PLUS" with Deluxe, unless they've added that this year.

Check your fees this way to be sure what all it is charging you for:

With your return open, go to the left column menu and click on TAX TOOLS, then TOOLS.

In the Tools window, choose MY FEES.

What products does it show you are being charged for?

Are you able to phone 800 numbers in the USA from your country?  (won't be free internationally, so be mindful of charges if you are on hold.)

If so, here's how to phone TurboTax Support:

Hours are 5AM-9PM Pacific (8AM-12 Midnight Eastern) 7 days/week.

FAQ: What is the TurboTax phone number?
https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/using-turbotax/help/what-is-the-turbotax-phone-number/00/25632

If that offers you to set up a phone call, then they will not phone you in a foreign country.  You'll have to do the phoning.  In that case, you can use this number for TurboTax Support:   (800) 446-8848.

If you can't phone TurboTax Support from your country, you can contact a TurboTax Support agent directly via messaging at Twitter or Facebook:

@ cessalee

I added some additional info to my answer above, including a TurboTax Support phone number (if you can use it from your country.)    I've also been trying to do some research on this, and I have seen a couple of references that imply that PLUS benefits may now be included in Deluxe, but I can't see a good description of it in regard to Deluxe, and it's not mentioned on the Deluxe product description/features page.   Perhaps they have added PLUS benefits to Deluxe.   I can't tell for sure, but it's possible.

In any case, if you already paid, and if Deluxe now includes PLUS, then PLUS is going to be what is causing your problem because it requires a state and zip code in regard to the consent form.  Unfortunately, PLUS cannot be removed after paying.

Since I'm just a fellow user, I think you'll be better served to discuss your issue directly with TurboTax Support so they can figure out your situation and advise you on what to do.   If there's a form you're having trouble with, they should be able to help you with that at the same time.
