The Missouri tax form asked me to put my MO portion of federal adjustments, Does this mean I have to put my 2018 refund there. Is it an addition or subtraction?

No, your refund does not go here.  All of the adjustments asked about here are subtractions.

The Missouri nonresident tax return is asking about the amounts in Part II of Schedule 1 of your federal return. If any of the federal amounts on lines 10 through 22 are "derived from or connected to sources in Missouri", they go in the form you are asking about.

To look at your Schedule 1 in TurboTax Online:

  1.  Click Tax Tools (on the left pane)
  2.  Click Tools (just Tax Tools on left pane)
  3.  In the pop-up window click View Tax Summary
  4.  On the left pane click Preview my 1040” to review the entries on your Schedules 1. Scroll past the Form 1040 to see Schedule 1.

The Missouri tax form asked me to put my MO portion of federal adjustments.  I work in Missouri and put $9000 total into three 529 plans. Is the $9000 considered to be a MO portion?

No. You have to enter your 529 contributions in the Missouri state interview screen. Do not enter this as a manual federal adjustment on your return.

Please follow these instructions to enter your 529 contributions:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Click on State on the left hand side.
  3. Click on Edit next to your Missouri return.
  4. Go through the interview until you get to a page titled Savings for Tuition Programs and answer Yes
  5. Enter your 529 contributions

Contributions to Missouri 529 plans are exempt up to $8,000 per year by an individual, and up to $16,000 per year by a married couple filing jointly.
