Sorry but you misunderstood. You cannot pay a tax to another taxing authority from your refund. The only thing you can choose to pay from your refund is to pay your TurboTax fees from a federal refund. It is up to you to pay any other tax due, whether you owe federal, state or local tax.
Did you make the same mistake for 2021? If so, better take care of that too before you get a letter and more penalties from the city.
TurboTax only prepares a few city or local tax returns as an extra step in your state return. For most local tax returns you are on your own. Your only record of paying your local tax will be your own bank/credit card records
Except for New York City, Yonkers, and a few cities in Ohio, Turbotax does not prepare any city returns, and never has.
Also, Turbotax can never pay your state or city tax from your federal refund. You can have Turbotax fees deducted from your federal refund, but Turbotax will not and can not pay other taxes out of your federal refund.
Most city taxes are pretty simple and the treasurer's office will usually help you fill out the form if you make an appointment and bring a copy of your federal or state tax return.
What city do you live in?
if an Ohio or Michigan city (except Detroit), city tax returns are not prepared automatically, in TurboTax. You have to initiate it within the state program. In addition, it must be printed and mailed. It is not e-filed. If you don't have a copy of a city return, on your list of forms, you didn't file one.
As others have said, the statement, "My return says I chose to deduct it from my tax return and paid it" is unlikely.
