I believe you are trying to get the Homestead Property Tax Credit. If you qualify, follow these steps:
- Go through MI return until you get to the Take a look at Michigan credits and taxes screen,
- select Start next to the Homestead Property Tax Credit.
- Mi uses resources not just income, do you want to review? click NO
- Did you pay property tax? click yes
- Select your status box -homeowner, renter, or mobile home park resident, and then click continue
- Any special situations? Select one and then continue
- Live in the same place all year? select yes or no
- If yes, next screen asks for property tax and value of homestead, enter values and click continue
- If no, enter old and new information, continue,, the next screen asks for property tax and homestead
From MI-1040CR Homestead Property Tax Credit Claim MI-1040CR Instructions:
You may not claim a property tax credit if your total household resources are over $60,600. In addition, you may not claim a property tax credit if your taxable value exceeds $136,600
