It depends.

  • Were you eligible for a tax credit last year that didn't apply this year
  • Did you have another source of income this year which wasn't there last year?
  • Did you change your job or withholdings?
  • Did you have higher deductions last year than this year?

I would recommend reviewing items you had input into your return last year to ensure you are not missing a deduction that you had reported in the past but may not have entered into your return this year.

What do I do if it’s been more then 21 days an I don’t have my money

The IRS releases most refunds within 21 days of the date that the IRS accepts the return. Some returns might take longer.

To check your refund status visit the IRS website Where's my refund.

What if my IRS refund is taking longer than 21 day ...

How can anybody know why you do or do not owe state taxes? This question is beyond vague. It's like asking everyone what you ate yesterday.

I e-file state tax returns and keeps rejecting it

Here's how you can fix it:

Sign in to your account and select the Fix my return button. Follow any “fix it” instructions to update the information causing the rejection.

Note: Not all rejections will have explicit guides to fix the information. You’ll need to navigate to the program area to address the cause of the rejection.

Time-saving Tip: If what you originally entered is correct, you won't be able to e-file. There's probably a data mismatch at the government, a dependent that's already been claimed, or some other situation beyond your control that prevents your return from being e-filed. In this case, your only option would be to print and mail in your return. This article will give you instruction on how to print and mail your return.

Additional reject instruction here.

TurboTax will recalculate your refund (or tax due) every time you add more information to your tax return.

The refund (or tax due) will continue to change until you enter all your forms and information and complete the final review

Once you transmit your tax return and it is accepted,  TurboTax has no control and does not get any updates regarding your return.  You can search the web by typing "Where's my refund (And enter your state name)".  This will generally give you an option with the state to check the status of your refund.

There is no way TurboTax can determine the status of your New York State tax refund. For security reasons, you are the only one who can request an update on the status of your refund, by calling the New York Department of taxation at 1-518-457-5149.
