state efile

I am in a domestic partner relationship. In California I must file as RDP filing separately. The Federal return must be filed as single. Turbotax will not let me efile my state return because both must be efiled at the same time. Since one is files as single and the other as RDP I cannot file both at the same time.  Is there a work around?

state efile

No, unfortunately, there is not workaround- the federal return must always be filed before any state returns and in your case, since your federal filing status is single it does not match the California filing status so the return must be mailed.

Registered domestic partners may not file a federal return using a married filing separately or jointly filing status. Registered domestic partners are not married under state law. Therefore, these taxpayers are not married for federal tax purposes.
