What's my residency after relocation but my family still stay in old state

Hey

Nov, 2019, I took an offer and relocated to SF, CA from Seattle, WA.  But my wife and daughter are still stay at WA at our owned home, no plan to move to SF. And I also plan 2 years later, back to WA. And every 2 weeks, I fly back in the weekend to visit my family.

My questions are:

1. Am I CA residency or WA residency for 2019, and later 2020?

2. Do I need to update my driver license to reflect my new address (the apartment I rent in SF)? This is not tax related but I think it is residency related question.

Thanks

-Jack Fu

1. Am I CA residency or WA residency for 2019, and later 2020?   For income tax purposes you are a CA non resident  but you will still pay CA taxes on the CA income.

2. Do I need to update my driver license to reflect my new address (the apartment I rent in SF)? This is not tax related but I think it is residency related question.   This is a question for the CA DMV.

For tax year 2020, CA will presume you to be a resident if you spend more than nine months in the state.
