Hi. I was a resident of Kansas until Aug 2019, then I started attending college in Texas. In March 2020, due to the Covid-19, I went to my parents' home in KS to attend college classes remotely until now (March 2021). I started to do an paid-intern work (remotely) for a Texas company in July 2020 (until now). I plan to go back to Texas college campus this fall for next year's college study.
What State of Residence should I put in Turbotax? Thanks.

Kansas is your state of residence. Attending college is considered a “temporary absence.” In almost all cases, you remain a resident of your home state while in school.
Texas does not have an income tax, but you will have to pay Kansas tax on your internship earnings. Check to see whether your employer can withhold Kansas income tax, if it is not being done already. You can file Form K-4.
Otherwise you may want to make estimated tax payments so you don’t owe a lot in Kansas tax next year.
I already filed my own person income tax for 2019 (as a resident of Texas), without being a dependent of my parents. For the tax year 2020, I also plan to file the tax myself. I also obtained my Texas driver license in Nov 2019 already. Combined all the information, I guess I still could file my 2020 tax as a Texas resident, right? Thanks.
Yes, you can file your 2020 1040 Individual income tax only. State of Texas does not have state income tax.
Nine states whicn inscludes Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming have no income taxes.
Thank you so much!
