I have more than 100 transactions in 1099-B for capital gains. This worked fine on Federal form.
However when bringing to PA state tax, TT created 3 groups
- One summary line for LT gains for which no adjustment was required
- One summary line for ST gains for which no adjustment was required
- Many lines for there were some adjustments such as ESOP and GBTC
Issue --> One of my account is owned by me and not jointly. The summary line merged the transactions from multiple accounts in summary lines - now I do not have way to split the asset owners for these lines.
Any suggestions?
Q2 - TT also says that I need to send all the details of the transactions to PA state TAX in a statement? Can we send the Scheduled D print-out?
Thanks
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
If you are filing a joint return which includes brokerage accounts in your name and other account(s) in joint name, then when those transactions are entered on your joint return, they will likely not be separated by account owner. They will likely be in chronological order but not in your preferred order separated by account. Unless you were to file separate returns there is no way to separate the transactions by account.
Form 8949 is probably the better document to send to PA in that such form provides more detail than Schedule D. Schedule D provides total sale proceeds and total cost basis whereas Form 8949 breaks down per transaction the amounts contained on Schedule D. However, if you do not have Form 8949 for all of your transactions given that it appears that for some no adjustment was necessary and perhaps basis was already reported, then sending Schedule D should be sufficient.
Thanks for the response.
I am still finalizing the returns and will consider sending both the outputs as combined they will give full output.
Also, maybe TT will give more details once I file online and allow me to print what is necessary.
