First, mailing the return takes extra time in the postal system. It then goes into a pile at the ND Tax Bureau, waiting for someone there to key it in (which could lead to errors). Third, paper filed returns take longer to process.
According to turbo tax, I have to mail in a copy of my ND income tax form with the federal form , so why am I waiting for ND to accept the form that turbo tax completed & charged me to do?

Myrna, If I understand your issue correctly, you want to know why you have to wait until the state is accepted. Waiting ensures that the return you will attach to the mailed in Federal is accepted without changes and that you have sent an accurate copy along with Federal.
However, it seems that you are mailing your federal return. Are you saying that you have to mail your Federal return? If that is the case then when you mail the Federal return, it is common to attach a copy of the state.
If your Federal return was rejected for e-filing, then there should have been instructions on how to correct the rejection so that you could proceed to e-file. When you e-file, TurboTax automatically forwards required copies of state or Federal returns in the electronic filing process. I feel that there must be some type of rejection that caused it to say the form must be mailed.
