I electronically filed and later amended my federal tax return before I mailed my Virginia state return. Do I need to mail my original Virginia state return AND my Virginia state ammended package? Can I just mail my Virginia state ammended package?

No, since the Virginia was not yet mailed, do not mail the original. The Virginia state return should be mailed as an original return. Check what worksheets are included and remove the sheets related to an amendment.

Thanks for your quick response.  The problem is that turbotax does not give you the option to not ammend the Virginia state return.  The only difference in the forms is in the first page of the new Virginia State return which says at the bottom left corner "Ammended".  Everything else is identical, except for the total tax due, which is the total new corrected amount (not just the additional $6 owed).

You should not file an amended tax return unless you already filed an original tax return.

In the Virginia section of the TurboTax program, under the page A few things before we wrap up your state taxes you will see a category under Other Forms for Amend a Tax Return. Click Start, and check the box for I don't want to amend my 2019 Virginia return.
