My employer did not withhold 2023 state taxes. I live in SC, I work in TN and my employer is in NC. When I filed my 2023 return I used the SC state return and paid the taxes due.
I've not been advised I should have paid NC state taxes and not SC. I have prepared an amended return adding the NC state form and followed the TT amended tax process carefully. The SC form now reflects zero taxes due and the NC form shows the correct NC tax due.
There is no indication on any of the returns advising 'Amended return' (and no 1040x).
The return literally looks like a new filing. My concern is I won't get the SC taxes I paid refunded.

If you didn't live or work in NC, you don't need to file NC return unless your employer withheld NC income tax.
Your income is taxable on SC return the state where you lived. TN the state where you worked does not have an individual income tax.
If you filed your 2023 SC as full year resident and paid taxes on income earned while living in SC and working in TN, you don't need to amend the return.
