Change state return after e-filing federal return.

If I e-file my federal return but delay e-filing my state return, can I make changed to the state return before e-filing it, or does it have to remain unchanged in order to e-file?  My state return is not due until July.

Change state return after e-filing federal return.

You can file a state tax return that includes information from an amended federal return.

TurboTax will update your state information with your amended federal information.

Your state may not have processed the amended federal information so it's possible a state e-file would be rejected for not matching federal. You can always mail your state return.

Makes sense.  I was trying to avoid an amended state return if I have to amend my federal return, since Maryland won't accept an e-filed amended return, but if they match it against the federal it looks as if I would have to file a paper return either way.  Thank you for your explanation.
