HI Jme02100! How do you delete the old state filing?

There is small trashcan logo next to the state return.

Anyone else’s CA state return get rejected due to charitable contributions?

I have the same issue. I have corrected it, but I am unable to refile just the CA return. It asks me to file both federal and state together. But my federal tax is already accepted. How do people file just the state return? I am using the Mac version of the software.

The @jme02100  solution worked for me today!  --- Thank you!!!

My Federal was accepted very quickly. For State I had THREE rejections prior to this solution working. First re-file I tried the fix it button and followed the email/notification instructions to start the State from beginning, second re-file I went through Federal and State again without success and the third time I removed the Charity from the already accepted Federal, reviewed State and it still failed.

My solution steps:

  1. Deleted State
  2. $0 for Charity in Federal
  3. Do state again (Import, it went fast)

After the @jme02100  solution my State was accepted in ~3 hours. I agree with the others that it is sad we had to solve this ourselves using message board for a software and submission fee that isn't exactly cheap which is suppose to do this work and REVIEW FOR ERRORS for us and it CREATED errors.

This is the end of my venting, I won't be spending any time on hold or drafting any email complaints.  🙂

.... And that we find out the 20 HERE not via an email/notification update from them. The spam generator for upgrades and add-ons seems to be working but not the solution function.

Yes, for KY. Have redone KY 2X including line by line with a Turbo Tax person who said to 'just refile'. It also got rejected (KY state.) Turbo Tax has not been much help at all.

3 rejections and given the same answer for the 17th of Feb--rejected again.  Called Turbotax and was told to mail return.

No, Go to feberal side. you must go thru the flow not just go to income or deduction to find it you wont.

After in feberal sie go to wrap up income. Keep going until it ask you to select standard or itemize deduction. The next screen will ask you about Charitable Contributions for line 12 b in california. This should work for other states also.

I just zeroed out Charitable Contribution in Federal, then went straight to State to resubmit CA, Turbo Tax takes you to the federal, you will need to zero out again when prompted.. no worries, you will not submit federal again, that is done, but you need to zero out in order to fix CA.

Even when you will efile turbotax will ask if you want to efile Federal, click next and then the sw will tell you that Federal is filed and you will continue to E-File CA.

I just did it. Wish me luck.

By the way, Turbo Tax support seem to know about this problem but they simply drop on you or dont come back on you with a call so I give up on them

Anyone else’s CA state return get rejected due to charitable contributions?

Seems like we are all having this problem.  I saw someone from KY with the same issue (we're from CA), so it seems to be a TURBO TAX ISSUE.  We spent an entire afternoon on the phone, trying to get a human, and when we finally got one, she told us to resubmit our state tax return on 2/17, which we did, only to get another rejection on 2/18.  If anyone can get a straight answer from Turbo Tax about how we are supposed to file our returns, would you please let the rest of us know?!!!  Thank you!

There’s a work around on the first page I posted. If your charitable contributions doesn’t make a difference in your refund you can zero that out on your fed return even if it’s been accepted delete old return and reimport your state return with the zero’ed out charitable contributions (it’s a question towards the end of you fed return). I’ve also seen people just delete it and reimport and have success resubmitting. I personally just 0’ed my fed charitable contribution because it made no difference in my refund or what I owed deleted my state return and hit start over to bring over that 0’ed out question from the fed return and it was accepted 30 minutes later. I’m not a tax expert this is just what worked for me and many others here as well.
