During the review of my Alabama 2023 forms the edit is requiring input dates for the beginning and end tax year dates. These are only required if you are filing for a non-calendar year. If I don't fill it in it says I cannot e-file for a non-calendar year. That edit has a bug.

I deleted/recreated the state return. That fixed it. The problem should have never happened in the first place but I thank you for helping to resolve it.
You should be able to enter the Jan 1 and Dec 31 dates. The state is much farther behind this year than usual. The state of AL is still releasing forms. Please check forms availability here. Select online, Windows, or Macintosh from the drop down menu. Whenever the federal and states change a form, we have to as well. This happens throughout tax season.
The date fields in question are on Form 40 which is ready for filing. All of my forms are ready. Those date fields should be left blank for a normal calendar year return but the edit is requiring me to fill them in. If I put in Jan 1 and Dec 31 it says invalid begin date. If I go on the next screen says that I cannot efile the state return because it is a non-calendar year return. This is a bug. How do I efile a normal calendar year return?
Additional info. My federal return has those date fields blank indicating a calendar year return. The state form should not be requiring me to fill them in.
Alabama forms have been updated and all are ready for filing. My problem has not been fixed.
Nothing comes to mind, so let's start with this: are you using the Online product or the desktop product? If you are using the Online product, have you already paid for it (otherwise you should not be able to see Form 40)?
Desktop Deluxe on Windows 10
I started back at the beginning and verified all input for both federal and state. Same error. No matter if I leave the date fields blank or fill in dates it still says "invalid begin date". The next screen the says I cannot efile because the return is for a non-calendar or prior year.
