I moved from Ohio to Michigan this year. My wife gets a pension from State teachers retirement Pension fund of Ohio. The 1099 R form states in Box 16 that all of her pension was paid in Ohio. It should be split between Ohio and Michigan as was reported for my pension. The agent for the State Teachers said that is the way they do it (not separating the states). What is the correct handling of this?

At the 1099-R screen, break down the entries for boxes 14-16, For first state, in box 16, enter only what your received while living in OH. Leave the withholding in box 14 on the OH line.
For Second state, enter 0 in box 14 and MI in box 15-State ID. Enter the amount received while living in MI in box 16. Leave box 15-Payers State No. blank*.
*If TT later insists on that #, try entering the OH #.

if your wife gets a monthly pension it needs to be split. payments received by a resident of OH gets taxed in OH while those received after the move to MI would be reported there.
was OH informed of the move? There was a SCOTUS decision that California could not tax nonresidents on pensions pay to them that were accumulated while Ca residents
That is kind of what I had intended to do. I was not sure it would be acceptable since they insist everything be entered as stated on the 1099-R
Thank you
