I had intended to paper file my Indiana State taxes and avoid the upcharge for e-filing but it appears that TurboTax automatically e-filed my state taxes anyway after e-filing my Federal taxes. The instruction sheet for my IN state return says "Do not mail a paper copy of your tax return. Since you filed electronically, the IN Dept of Rev. already has your return." How can I confirm that my IN taxes were actually e-filed? Also, will TurboTax be billing me for this? And, if so, how?

I don't think you e-filed your state return.
I got on the phone with Tier 2 customer service and they showed me the issue, which is more that the screen is unintuitive to what you may think in order to do the "mailed state return" option.
On the "E-file Your Federal Return for FREE" screen in the desktop program, you need to click the "File by mail" radial button to get to the screen to mail your state return. Completely unintuitive, but that's how it works to mail the state return.
In TurboTax Online, are you able to go to Tax Home in the upper left hand corner of the screen. Does the screen give information about your Indiana state income tax return being transmitted or accepted? Please advise.
If the Indiana state income tax return has been transmitted or accepted, the price for the state tax return has likely been paid.
If the Indiana state income tax return has not been transmitted or accepted, please advise.
Indiana Where's my refund may be found here.
I am also in Indiana and I am getting the exact same message/issues.
There is something wrong with the Indiana State Tax part of the program, this is not user error!
I've been using TurboTax for over 20 years and never had an issue until this year.
When I click on "File" and get the drop down that shows "Check E-file Status" it says "Your 2023 Federal Returns, Accepted
Congratulations!
But I don't see any reference to anything about a State E-filing being done or accepted.
Just to be clear, I am using the client software on my computer, not the online version.
I am also trying to print and mail my Indiana State Return, instead of electronically file it. However, the software itself seems confused when I look at the printed copy of my return, stating the same as the other user, as if I electronically filed. I never selected to electronically file the state, nor will I.

Yes, I am still having the same problem. Below shows the TurboTax instructions telling me not to mail the state documents because they have already been e-filed. I do not know if this is true or not because I have not gotten any text or email from the state confirming receipt of this tax. I have also not seen a bill on my credit card from TurboTax and am still wondering if I will get one.
This is actually my daughter's return and I don't want her to suffer any negative repercussions from the state in the event we go ahead and mail in her state tax returns (using 2022 TurboTax instructions).
I also don't want to run into the same problems when I file my other daughter's return or my own.
Your screen shows that you should not mail a paper copy of IN since it was filed electronically. It does say to print and sign the 8453. IN tells people to do that and keep it in their records until 12/31 -3 years later. See Do Not Mail This Form To DOR.
You can check with the state to see where you refund is here.
Yes, I am aware of the state website.
The question I am asking is whether or not my State Tax Return was actually filed or not filed. Also, I am aware of what the TurboTax instructions say, but I am trying to confirm with you at TurboTax is if there is any confirmation (or way to confirm) that the state return was, in fact, e-filed with the state. The state website does not give any information that a return was actually e-filed or not. (I have not set up an account under my daughter's name to try and find out where her refund is.
Perhaps you are misunderstanding what I am asking. TurboTax only confirms that the Federal forms were e-filed.

Thank you JohnWayne1. I was about to give up on getting help from TurboTax.
Your information worked and I was able to get my daughter's state taxes sorted out. Now I can help my other daughter and get my taxes filed as well.
