Overpayment due to a mistake

I was getting ready to file my tax return and I made a purchase for an additional state which was California

an then I noticed that I have to pay for state returns anyway so I don't need the extra California return e-file that I purchased. How do I get a credit for the amount of 44.99 ?

Not sure I understand.  You are using the Desktop installed program, right?  Did you already download a different state program for the free one?  The 44.99 is to buy a state program download.  It's not a efile fee.  You can print and mail state returns for free or each state return including the first one is 24.99 to efile.
