"Other PreTax" in box 14 not allowing me to e-file in New York

Hello,

My W2 has a line for "Other PreTax" in box 14. I don't know what this is and it wasn't there last year. I have reached out to my employer to ask. Turbotax instructions say to choose for the description "other", but when I do this I get a message:

"Box 14 Identification - NYS does not allow the description selected for the NY public employee retirement contribution code entered (ERS, NYRET, RET, NYSERS). To E-file successfully you must choose either "NY IRC 414H subject to NY tax" or "NY IRC 414H tax exempt" from the picklist.."

I'm not a public employee. I don't contribute to a 414H. Those codes are not on my w2. The only ones in box 14 are the "Other PreTax, NY FL, and NY DI". Am I missing something? Why can't I choose other?

Update: I've discovered when I change "OTHER PRETAX" to "OTHER", I get no error message. I'm guessing it is recognizing the RET in PRETAX as a code.

Would it be alright to leave this as OTHER even if that isn't exactly as it appears on my W2?

It also seems to be accepting "Other Pre-Tax" with an added dash.

I would say Yes.

I will note that I have read of others changing PRETAX to PRE TAX with success. But if your way ("Other") works, I would declare victory and otherwise file if you are ready.
