Hello,
My daughter is in college in California and last summer she interned in Virginia for 10 weeks . I am assuming she is a Oregon resident (as her "permanent home" and Driver's license/voter registration etc is in Oregon).
So, I want to make sure that she is not double taxed in her home state, Oregon. How and where do we report the taxes she has already paid in the state of VA so she can get a credit in OR state tax?
Thanks much!!!

Oregon and Virginia happen to be "reverse-credit" states. That means that Oregon will not allow an "other state credit" for taxes paid to Virginia. An Oregon resident with income taxed by both Oregon and Virginia must claim the credit on his or her non-resident Virginia tax return.
In general, your home state will tax all income from all sources.
You will file a nonresident return for the states that you do not reside in, VA for your daughter, since she earned money there. When you file, you will fille out your nonresident states first. Then you will fill out her resident state, claiming a credit for taxes paid to the nonresident states on your home state return. You may or may not still end up owing money to your resident state depending on whether or not their tax rate is higher or lower than your nonresident state. If the non resident state had a higher tax rate than your resident state, your credit will be limited to the amount of tax you would have paid to your resident state. They will not give you a refund of the taxes you paid to the nonresident state.

Thanks a bunch - super helpful.
Is it possible to e-file an amended return for Virginia state in Turbotax. If so , how do I do it ?
Thanks
