I am over 65, my husband is not. We are filing jointly, with him as the main taxpayer. Do we both need to be over 65 in order to get this credit? I cannot find the answer in the state instruction book or the state tax code. One website I came across said we both need to be over 65 but I'm not sure of the reliability.
Does Turbo Tax automatically do your state taxes for you? We finished (but did not submit) our federal taxes and closed out the program last week. When we went to the print preview section today, it appears as if the state taxes had been done. We also got an alert which said there was an error in a form but didn't say which one. There were no previous error alerts for the Federal form; now I'm worried there is an error on the state. Since the $50 credit was taken, I was wondering if that could be the error.

You can claim a $50 Ohio Senior Citizen Credit if you were 65 at the end of the tax year. If you are filing a joint return, only one credit of $50 is allowed even if you and your spouse are both 65 or older.
Turbo Tax automatically do your state taxes for you. The program runs the error check before to file; and if any of the credits were disallowed it will let you know how to fix it.
