You will allocate the amount you received while you lived in New York as New York social security income. An easy way to do this is to use the fraction of time spent in New York during the year. You will apply this fraction to the taxable social security income from your federal return. Look for the screen below in the New York state tax section.

Does the fraction count 1/2 a month for 10.5 months or is it 10 or 11 months?
Don't count the fraction. Allocate the amount received during the month you moved from one state to another to the state you were a resident of when you received it.
