How can I delete an incorrect entry on Form NJ-BUS-1, Part I-Line 1 and NJ-BUS-1, Part II-Line 3?
My issue is a little more involved then similar ones I have seen posted here, so please read my message completely before providing an answer.
I believe these entries were created last year when I had other business/partnership income. I deleted the entries/Forms in the Federal return, BUT that DID NOT delete the entry on NJ-BUS-1. Let me rephrase that. The NJ-BUS-1 Part I, Line 1 and Part II, Line 3 entries are blank, but TurboTax wants me to complete the business/partnership name, SSN/EIN and Profit/Loss. Otherwise, I get an error and cannot file the return.
When I complete the fields with Name = “ “ (i.e., a space), SSN/EIN = [social security number removed], Profit/Loss = 0, the error goes away, but then the NJ-BUS-! form that goes to NJ has the zero entries, which creates an odd optic.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your help.

If you don't have business or partnership income to report this year, Part l and Part ll should be empty. TurboTax wants you to complete information because the worksheets are still active in your NJ return. If you remove the worksheets, you won't have an error and those sections will be empty. Delete the following 2 worksheets.

Thanks for your suggestion.
I had already deleted the NJ Partnership Income Worksheet and Business Income Worksheet that were applicable in 2018, but are no longer applicable to 2019.
The problem still exists.
I do have 2019 Partnership Income from other LLCs, and those are working just fine.
So, I'm still at a loss on how to fix this.
Can anyone help with this issue?
Thanks
You mentioned that you deleted the entries that you believe are causing the issue from your Federal return. If you did that after you had started your NJ return, then the NJ entries had probably already been created.
My suggestion would be to delete your state return and start it again. This will re-transfer the Federal information to the state return.
If this does not clear up the issue, consider sharing a diagnostic copy of your tax return here so that we may investigate this further to try to help.
Use these steps if you are using TurboTax Online:
If you are using a CD/downloaded version of TurboTax, use these steps:
@Anonymous
Removing the state return sounds like a good idea, but I can't figure out how to do that with the TurboTax Premier for Mac software.
Could you help?
Thanks so much.
Steve
T-tax incorrectly auto filled my SSN in Part I, line 1, on Schedule NJ-Bus-1 (Form NJ-1040NR) and then flags me for not filling in the business name and profit/loss. I cannot delete the form as you suggest because I need it for Part III. I decided to e-file so that I don't have to go the post office and have face to face contact with a clerk, so I can't just cross out the SSN or add a "0," which I would do on a hard copy. However, E-filing caused my forms to be rejected. I spent $50 to make NJ filing easier, and I've spent more time trying to figure out how to get around this one mistake than I have on my fed files. Please tell me how to fix this so that they can process my refund. I did not fill out Part I on the same form last year.
Thank you.
You don't want to delete the NJ-Bus-1 (you need part lll, so don't delete it) form, only the Business Income Worksheet. @mkt-debbie-mihal
@Anonymous - To delete your state return in the desktop software, use the File menu up top. There should be an option that says Remove State Return.
Mac Instructions - Remove Forms
Thank you, but deleting the worksheet didn't work. The SSN was input elsewhere and was autofilled on Part I, which generated the worksheet and triggered the request for more information. The worksheet would simply reappear after deleting it.
I filled in the business name with a message akin to "t-tax won't let me leave this blank" and put a zero in the number column. NJ accepted the form that way and my fingers are crossed it is enough.
I am having the same problem, there is a blank line 1 with no company name or profit/loss, just my SSN, line 2 is my correct business and has supporting forms, but line 1 has none, and there is nothing for it on my Fed form. I have deleted my state taxes and recreated them, and again the phantom line 1 is on NJ-BUS-1.
Have you deleted the worksheet referenced above? If you still receive the error after removing the worksheet, delete your state return and then create a new NJ state return. Instructions for both are above. @rmfay3
Have done both, but this still shows up:
"The supposed 3 entry rows are there but only the first row has entry. The next 2 rows are blank and asking for entry. The Total is also indicated. But when I enter the amount information in the blank rows, the totals double up.
The entries are not rolling in.
Please help.
Thanks
I called up TT customer service and they refused to help. They just told me to file an extension and then print it out and paper file it. Why did I spend $ 50 then ?
@mkt-debbie-mihal Wanted to find out if you had any issues with NJ the way you handled it?
TurboTax 2020 still has the same issue. When is TurbTax going to fix this problem with the NJ return. There should be a check if the business still exist and if not, just ignore that line and stop flagging it as an error and prevent us from e-filing.
