When I click file tab, Turbo tax replies just one more matter: A popup asks for amount on box 14a of a 1099-R from Vanguard. There is a Box 14 that has $0.00 indicated, but no 14a on the 1099-R. I have tried to put $0.00 (the amount in my Box 14) in the pop-up box indicated, but no luck. The return will not e-file. The Federal return went through and I have received my refund. HELP, please!

If there was no state withholding on your 1099-R, please can leave Boxes 14-16 blank. You should also unselect the state in drop down box. This should clear the error on your return.
To update your 1099-R, please complete the following steps:
You mention that I should unselect the State. Where in the Turbotax entry do I do this? I blanked-out the amounts in Boxes 14 to 16, but still no acceptance by NYS.
This did not work for me. Is there a telephone number for Turbotax help?
To unselect the state, I meant that Box 15 should remain stating -Select-. I have attached a picture below for additional guidance.
Now, on the following page titled, Where is your distribution from?, are you selecting Retirement distributions from: New York State?
Next, click on State and continue through the screens until you get to Changes to Federal Income. Click Start next to Received Retirement Income.
Continue through the screens and your full pension will be excluded under Government Pension.
Hopefully these screenshots provide the guidance you need to complete your return. Please comment if you are having any further issues.
Now I have an additional problem: When I try to e-file the NYS return, there is a message that to do so requires the Federal return to be filed first, and I am instructed to go back to an earlier page to select. But the Federal return has already been filed, and the refund received, so I no longer have that option. I am stuck and cannot proceed.
Although you can e-file your federal and state taxes together, if you choose to e-file your federal first, you'll have to wait until that return has been accepted before you can e-file your state. You can check your E-file status here, to see if it was accepted yet. Please see the link below for more information:
My Federal return was accepted and refund received. The 1099- R at issue is not a NYS tax event as the distribution was directed to a approved charity. On another matter, when I researched the 1099 in question in the Federal entry, I noticed that there was a duplicate entry of the form. I removed the duplicate and am wondering if this change is what is preventing me from filing the New York return. (?)
Did that change your federal return? If so, that changes things. The NY only accepts with or after the federal. If your federal has changed, do you need to amend?
@Ristau They just updated the software today. It appears the issue is now resolved as I was able to file my NYS return!
Very frustrating, but thank God that it finally went through! Thank you
