new jersey state filing

I only made $8000 of my total income from a job I have online based out of New Jersey, I know their filing threshold is $10,000 from all income, but does that mean all income including income I made in other states or just income made in New Jersey

Yes, if you are a nonresident and your entire gross income from all locations for the entire year was more than the filing threshold, you must file.

For New Jersey, the filing threshold for single or married filing separate returns is $10,000.  The married filing joint or head of household threshold is $20,000.

just to be clear, all my other income was made in tennessee and only $8000 gross income came from New Jersey, I still have to file taxes listing all my other (outside of New Jersey) income?

Yes. New Jersey bases its tax rate on your total income, not your NJ income which is why you include your total income on the NJ return. This is the way most states do it.

If you made $8,000 in NJ and $80,000 total, your NJ tax rate would be the tax rate on $80k, not the tax rate on $8k.

But you would only be taxed on $8k.

Suppose the tax on $80,000 is 5% or $4,000. Since you only earned 10% ($8/$80k) of your income in NJ, your tax would be 10% of $4,000, or $400, not the 0% rate for income under $10,000.
