need another state

Hello:

My wife and I are premier with turbo tax that file jointly and was wondering as we moved from CA to Oregon do we just get 1 state download for Oregon or do we do 2 downloads and if 1 will it complete each name when filling it out or will 2 forms come up. Also if we moved to Oregon November 19(residency) 2024. We get social security, pensions, Ira distribution and Investment income but no wages as we're retired do we fill out a percentage amount for that almost month and a half and is there a box for that and how would that be computed as Oregon has no state tax or  CA also doesn't on social security. Does a new form on turbo tax come up on Oregon for both of us or how will that work. Finally how do you download and pay for another state. Do you do it when you start your taxes as haven't startled yet but will soon.

Yes, if you moved from California to Oregon in November 2024, you will need to split out most of your retirement income for a California Part-Year Resident return.

Easiest way is to divide your total income by 12, and multiply by number of months lived in CA.

You're correct that you don't need to file an Oregon return.

Here's more info on How to File a Part-Year Resident Return and  Allocating Income for a Part-Year Resident.

hmmm..might well need to file a Part-year OR tax return too.

Investment income would be the primary issue, since mutual funds tend to distribute their Cap gains in December, that would be OR-taxable income...along with any pension payments during December...or if you took any IRA $$ after moving to OR.

My wife and I lived in CA then moved to Oregon 11/19/24 being residents then. How do we figure our pensions as got paid the first of each month and is there a spot on turbo tax that asks for each persons pension amount individually as we do usually file jointly. Do we also do the total of each as we do take out 10% federal taxes each.

Lastly-we do have premier online with turbo tax and what are the procedures on requesting a 2nd state as we get 1 state with premier. What are the entries and do we do it online.

Sorry, but I don't know any details on how exactly the Oregon part-year data entry is supposed to be entered.  Only someone with the Oregon forms could provide those details.

You said you have "Premier" Online with one state??

Careful here...be certain as to what software you are working on:

1)  That version of the Online software is called "Premium", and does NOT come with one free state.

2) the "Desktop" software is called "Premier" and includes one free state software set....and must be installed and operated on your computer...and not thru a browser.  You may have downloaded the software from an Online account...but it must be installed, and prepared solely on your own computer.
