My NYS IT-201 appears to be taxing me for money earned in PA.

My home is New York, but I'm a full-time student in Pennsylvania and I had a job on campus in 2024. I paid Pennsylvania state and local taxes out of my salary, but my W-2 is two pages an has NY in Box 15 on page 1, and PA in Box 15 on Page 2. The State wages listed in Boxes 16 are similar and reflect the same gross pay. My Pennsylvania portion of the taxes said I didn't owe and wasn't getting a return. The New York tax form, however, combined my NY income from a Summer job in NY (which I had state taxes deducted from) with my PA campus job, and calculated my gross income based on both, so I end up owing $59. I didn't owe anything to NY until the PA income was added in, and yes, I did the PA non-resident return first. How can I get TurboTax to calculate my NY income based on the income I earned in NY, and not double tax me on the PA income?

As a resident, you pay state tax (and city tax if a New York City or Yonkers resident) on all your income no matter where it is earned.

Department of Taxation and Finance

However, you can claim on NY return credit for taxes paid to another state.

This credit is allowable only for the portion of the tax that applies to income sourced to and taxed by the other taxing authority while you were a New York State resident.
