Multiple States Filing

So I had a busy year in terms of job changes. I am a resident of NY. I have W2s from companies in NJ. This is where Im a little confused. My third company is based out of Oregon, but Im classified as a remote worker. In the W2, the OR state wages is 10,000/- (I made more than that in wages) and there's a state and local income tax. I dont understand that? Is there a difference in Oregon taxes?

Also since I now have 3 states involved what would best order to file (I typically would do NJ first and then follow it up with NY)?

Multiple States Filing

TurboTax advises to always start with the nonresident returns. That way, the double taxed income and tax will flow to your resident return.

Contact your Oregon-based company. Oregon does not tax remote workers so you should not pay any Oregon tax, much less local tax.

Oregon says: “Oregon law requires that every employer withhold income tax from both resident and nonresident employees working in Oregon.

“Transit payroll tax is imposed on nearly every employer who pays wages for services performed in the TriMet or LTD districts regardless of whether those services are performed by resident or nonresident employees.”

The wage difference might be some type of payroll mix up where the company either started or stopped withholding sometime during your employment.

You will probably have to file a nonresident Oregon return to get your withholding back. In such cases it’s prudent to mail your return with a statement explaining why you are claiming $0 state wages and enclose a copy of your resident return showing all wages properly reported.

Thanks for the response @ErnieS0! I'm reaching out to my company for more details. I purchased my copy for TurboTax from Amazon (Windows Download) Is there a way I can add a Turbo Tax profession review to this - similar to TurboTax Live, etc.
