We are moving to Maryland on July 10th, we will move there permanently.
I work remotely, should I become a resident immediately. Do I start paying taxes in MD right away from my paycheck deduction? I don't pay state income taxes in Florida
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Yes, once you've made a permanent move to another state, you will need to begin payroll deductions for that state's taxes. Notify the payroll department of your company to begin withholding for MD.
When you prepare your tax return(s) for tax year 2019, you'll file a part-year resident return for MD. You'll only owe MD taxes for earnings after July 10, and will see how to allocate properly when you prepare the return.
Additionally, you'll want to notify the IRS of your address change using Form 8222. I'm linking that form below for your convenience.

Thank you so much!
My pleasure!
