As of December 31, 2022 we lived in MO but moved to AL in early 2023. Other posts indicate I should file using my new (AL) address so IRS an contact me if needed. I have always filed a MO Resident tax return since I lived there, and also historically filed an AL Non-Resident return since we down rental property there. I will do that for the 2022 filing as that was accurate as of year end. Two questions:
1) For 2022 filing (now, in 2023), I am using our new AL address as my primary, but when I look at my MO Resident tax return, it shows my AL address but the County is showing my old MO county. It's a mismatch but is this intentional as MO will recognize my new address but wants to know what county I lived in when in MO?
2) For both MO and AL filings, are those states going to think it's odd that my new address is AL but I'm filing a MO Resident return and an AL Non-Resident return? I feel like everything would flow better if I put my old MO address on the return. Is there a way to use my old MO address on the filing but but my new AL address as "mailing address"?

People move all the time. This is not news to the taxing authorities. You should be using your current mailing address on your tax returns so that if the IRS or the state needs to mail you a letter or a check, the mail will reach you.
thx - But what about the MO return which shows my correct new AL address, but county shows the county I lived in for MO. Is this right/ok to leave or do I need to do something there?
It is correct to leave the MO county on the form with your current mailing address. The county represents where you lived during 2022.
