Missouri tax filing

my daughter is a resident of Missouri but worked remotely from Florida for an internship in Missouri. Does she need to file a MO tax return. No taxes were withheld

If she is a resident of MO, then all her income is taxable by MO, regardless of where she earns it.

As to whether or not she must file a MO tax return, see "Am I required to File a Missouri Return?" in this online reference:

https://dor.mo.gov/faq/taxation/individual/general.html

You can use this online worksheet to determine if her income meets MO's filing criteria:

2023 MO-1040

must be doing something wrong. Approximately 22K of the 24K was earned in IL, the rest in MO. IL state tax was paid, but MO state tax due comes up to $292. The calculation starts with federal income of 24K, takes a standard deduction  of approximately 13K and then calculates the $292...does that seem right of am i missing something..thanks

No, state liability is key. The home state of MO gets to tax all income and must give a credit for double taxed income. The NEC is not self-employed income when working for a school. It should be taxed as ordinary income. Fill out the nonresident state return, get a tax liability, then fill out the resident MO return with a tax credit for the tax paid to MO.

I am not following how working in FL caused IL tax but that is ok. FL has no state tax.
