What does this message mean? I tried going through the Review tab, but no instructions were provided:
"The return is in a tax situation that doe not allow you to e-file. You'll need to print and file your return by mail. If you want more details, select the Review tab and continue through Final Review."
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
TurboTax transfers data from your federal return to your state return. If the info in your federal return is incomplete or incorrect, your state return won't be complete or correct either.
Before you begin troubleshooting your state return, go back through your federal return (starting at the Personal Info tab) and make sure everything's correct.
Once you're done, select the State Taxes tab and review the state section. Pay close attention to the info, especially if you made changes to your federal return. There might be new sections that need to be completed.
Sometimes changes made to your federal return won't transfer if you override info in your state return. If this happens, delete your state return and start over.
Thanks for the help. I went back through the federal return, then all the way through the MN tax return, but the error is still happening. If I delete the state return, do I need to purchase it again? Or will the system know I already paid to install the MN return? I installed WI as my free state return.
No, you won't need to purchase the state return again.
If you're using TurboTax Desktop and you delete your state return as suggested in the TurboTax Help article How do I clear my state return in the TurboTax for Windows software?, your state return will be deleted, but the state program that you purchased won't be.
If you're using TurboTax Online and you’ve already paid your state fees, you won't be able to delete your return, but you can start over by selecting Start Over next to your state return on the Status of your state returns screen. See the TurboTax Help article How do I delete my state return in TurboTax Online? for more information.
