Thanks again.  Tag Team has given it to moderators.  Waiting to see what happens.  You do good work for a volunteer.

It would be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2021" file that is experiencing this issue.

You can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information.  If you would like to do this, here are the instructions:

Go to the black panel on the left side of your program and select Tax Tools.

  1. Then select Tools below Tax Tools.
  2. A window will pop up which says Tools Center.
  3. On this screen, select Share my file with Agent.
  4. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is.  Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number.
  5. Reply to this thread with your Token number. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.

We will then be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return and provide you with a resolution.

The token # is 951350.

Your help is much appreciated and I look forward to hearing back.

For your information, I earlier received a token #942072 which I never got a response.  At that time, I had another issue (A form 8606 was generated which looked reasonable, but I don't recall providing any input to create this form):  How did that form get created?

The ability to e-file MA return is the most urgent, but if you have time to shed light on the other matter, I'd appreciate it.  Thanks again.

@vrtoo  Don't know if you still are having problems with this form but Form 8606 is used to report: Nondeductible contributions you made to traditional IRAs. Distributions from traditional, SEP, or SIMPLE IRAs, if you have ever made nondeductible contributions to traditional IRAs. Conversions from traditional, SEP, or SIMPLE IRAs to Roth IRAs. Distributions from Roth IRAs.

If you do not need form 8606, you can delete it.

However, if any of these 3 situations apply to you:

  1. You received a distribution from an inherited traditional IRA that had nondeductible contributions
  2. You transferred an inherited plan account to a Roth IRA
  3. You received a distribution from an inherited Roth IRA that was not a qualified distribution

then you'll have to download and print Form 8606, manually fill it out (instructions), and print and file your return, as you won't be able to e-file.

Where do I find Form 8606?

How do I view and delete forms in TurboTax Online?

I have a small non-deductible IRA and am familiar w/ Form 8606 and have filed it in the past, though not for 2020 taxes, filed through Turbotax, as I did not take any IRA distributions, other than a QCD from a different IRA, that year.

I filed the 2021 return w/ the 8606 as the numbers on it seemed reasonable.

The reason I mentioned it in the reply w/ the token # is that I'm curious what caused the form to be generated as I don't recall making any inputs that would create the form.  Not a big deal, but thought if someone is examining the file, maybe they could explain this.  Maybe I did make some entries, though I couldn't find any.

The MA e-file is much more important.

Thanks again for your assistance.

Thank you AliciaP1; you have tried to help.  After receiving yours (on 3/9 I believe) w/ directions for creating a Token #, I did so and sent the Token# 951350 the next day.  It may have gone to Champ; I can't tell from the message.

Not having heard anything for 2 weeks, on 3/22, I sent a message to CHAMP tag team, explaining the issue.  (Once again, the issue is not being given an option to e-file the MA return after successfully e-filing the 1040).

I have not received a response to this message.

Can you please let me know who I might contact to get a response and when I should expect one.  If there is no solution to my issue, I would appreciate learning that so I can either mail a return or file on line through the MA Department of Revenue's web site.

You cannot e-file your MA return because you have negative sales prices listed on your Capital Gains/Losses worksheet.  While this is allowed for your Federal return, MA requires this return to be paper-filed. So, you will need to print your MA return and mail it in.

Thank you for posting this again - my notifications from Community hiccupped and I didn't see your post on 3/10.

Thanks once again AliciaP1; you are about the only positive experience I have had with Turbotax this year, and I am impressed to see your response to me early on a Sunday morning.  It would have been helpful had the Turbotax system explained that a negative sales price  on my capital gains worksheet disqualified Massachusetts efile.

However, and I have one more request of you and that is to explain the negative sales.

The federal return had no losses or negative sales.

On the Mass. return I deducted $1,373 to account for a different state basis on certain mutual fund capital gain distributions as reported by Fidelity Investments.  I went back through the state worksheets and saw one called "Additional Capital Gain/Loss Differences" and that is where I made this adjustment.  If this is the negative sales price to which you refer, I give up and will file a paper return even though I have efiled MA returns for many years after taking this adjustment.

Thanks again and sorry to bother you w/ this as you must be very busy at this point in the tax season, but please just let me know about the negative sales prices I can't seem to find.

Have enjoyed corresponding w/ you and look forward to your response.

No, the basis is not the issue.  You have negative amounts in the "Sales Proceeds" column on your 1099-B from Robinhood Securities.  The Federal return allowed your e-file with this information, but MA will not.  If your 1099-B forms are correctly reported (as I assume they are since there are so many line items, I'm guessing you imported your info) then you will need to print and mail your MA return.

I'm glad I've been able to help you out!

I will keep this inquiry going as I am being confused with another return.  I don’t have a Robinhood account and had only 2 trades, both bond redemptions.  So please investigate this issue if not for me for the integrity of TurboTax’s customer service.  Thanks again!

I saw your token and went straight to the e-file section and found the program does not want to file both the state and the extension at the same time.  Mark to file the extension later (actually never) to get through the program.

I see the Form M-4868 in your forms list. if you want to deal with it, your options are:

  1. delete the extension, Choose your method of deletion:
    • Online: A simple way to delete forms in TurboTax online is to use the Tax Tools menu option, which is on your left menu bar when you are working in your program. Then, choose Tools and then Delete a form.
    •  Desktop: If you are working in the download TurboTax program, use the Forms Mode on your menu bar to bring up the form you want to delete, then choose the Delete Form option at the bottom of the form.
  2. go back into your MA return:
    1. go to Other Situations, update
    2. Skip estimated taxes
    3. select yes you have mailed your extension

Dear AmyC, I wish I had found you earlier or you found my tokens earlier (this problem has been going on for a long time) and I would have had a better feeling about Turbotax.  However, your instructions allowed me to e-file my state return so one less thing to worry about.  If you can contact w/ AliciaP1 thank her also for staying w/ my problem and presumably putting  you in touch w/ me.  Thanks again.
