Maryland 505 Form

Hey,

Does anyone know what documents need to be submitted with a Maryland 505 form?

Turbotax allowed me to submit my Maryland 505 before submitting my VA tax return. I’m concerned that Maryland needs my VA tax return in order to process the taxes withheld through error.

Anyone have any knowledge on this?

The instructions for a Maryland 505 just say to attach a W-2 or document showing taxes withheld from MD. It says nothing about attaching the state you reside in tax return.

No.  Do not send anything else to MD.  Wait for your return to process and if they need something else they will ask via letter.

Additionally, if you haven't already, you should contact your employer to have withholding for MD stopped since you are a VA resident.  There is a reciprocity agreement between those two states.  The reciprocity states only your resident state will tax your income so no withholding from the non-resident state is needed.  This will preclude you from filing non-resident returns only to claim refunds.

When I spoke with MD about our non-resident issue, they said that you have to attach federal and the state you reside in tax returns.

We have an issue for taxes being withheld in MD and we don't live or work there.
