My husband is a resident in Montana. I am a resident of Arizona. Last year turbo tax allowed us to file joint on federal and split on Montana with two residents. This year it is not allowing me to record them differently on the Montana return.
How do I override it?

You can file as MFJ for the federal and also use MFJ for Montana and Arizona. The important part is to set this up in the beginning in TurboTax under My Info. Make sure that everything is entered so that one person is a resident of Montana and the other is a resident of Arizona.
Enter the state information for each of you at the beginning of the return. My mock return listed Michigan as the first state to be worked on and then California. Take your time and answer the questions about residency and income in the different states as you proceed through the return.

That is what I did, just like last year. It worked for Arizona but not Montana. I will walk through it again to see if I missed anything.
thanks!
