On mass form 1 in section 3 I have a problem with a tax exempt portion as reported on a 1099r. This pension is from federal employment and is not taxable by the state. The system says there is something wrong with what I am doing. I have been doing this for a lot of years the same way. I went back to my federal income and everything I put in the OPM 1099R entry is correct. What do I need to do

You should go to the section of TurboTax where you first entered the 1099-R in the income section.
In the State Information, Box 14-16, do not enter anything in this area, since your pension as a retired teacher is not taxable in Massachusetts.
The OPM 1099R is a CSA 1099R. The boxes you are talking about are not o this CSA. 1099R
To enter the CSA 1099-R, go to Retirement Plans
I cannot get by this problem. I deleted the OPM record, started from scratch and followed the instructions. It looked like it was going to work. Once I got to the Mass St Return, the problem I originally had was still present. I went back to the Federal CSA 1099R and found the software had populated the State center box with MA.
I did not put this in when recreating the OPM CSA 1099R. What next?
