Live in & work for a co. based in VT, sometimes I get sent on jobs in NY. My W2 splits my income and tax between the states. Why is NY taxing my adj fed gross income?

NY starts with the Federal but it will ask for how much is earned in NY and then use that percentage to total income and multiple that by the tax.

You need to finish the NY return and will see this.
